Nowadays quiet and half-forgotten, the island of Lamu epitomizes this rich heritage. So what are the best things to do on Lamu?

Shella is a tangle of donkey-wide alleys, winding among tall stone townhouses, small thatched huts, few mosques and ruins and a spacious square ringed with some market stalls. Dinner and overnight at the luxurious hotel.

Day 2:
0900hrs: Full day dhow excursion of the sea surrounding the island. Go fishing, snorkeling, deep sea diving, Swimming and sand bathing while also enjoying the cool breeze and more of the Swahili culture. Lunch will be served aboard the dhow.
After lunch we will visit the Manda Island. This once held one of the Kenya coast’s largest settlements, but this once-thriving community abandoned the town in the 17th century. The cause is debated, but the most probable reason was the depletion of fresh water on the island. Today the coral stone ruins are a popular destination for a day trip from Lamu or Shella.
