Lake Baringo holds one of the World Records for the number of birds counted in one area at one given time. Key species expected to be seen in this short expedition include; Greater Flamingo, Lesser Flamingo, African Fish Eagle, African Jacana, Black Crake, Goliath Heron, Little Bittern, Purple Heron and White-faced Whistling Duck, Spotted Eagle-Owl, Northern White-faced Scops Owl, Shikra, Dark Chanting-Goshawk, Verreaux’s Eagle, Slender-tailed Nightjar, Heuglin’s Courser, Blue-capped Cordon-bleu, D’Arnaud’s Barbet, Black-throated Barbet, Brubru, Grey-headed Bushshrike, Jackson’s Golden-backed Weaver, Northern Masked Weaver, White-billed Buffalo-Weaver, Beautiful Sunbird, Jackson’s Hornbill.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Baringo

From Lake Nairobi we head North-west towards the fresh water Lake Baringo, with a stopover near the Menengai crater and here, we find the Brown Parisoma and Brown Snake-Eagle in these farm lands. At Lake Baringo and its environs, we search for rare species restricted to the north-western part of the country including Hemprich’s and Jackson’s Hornbills, Heuglin’s Courser, Nubian Nightjar, Brown-tailed Rock Chat, Northern Grey Tit, Gambaga flycatcher, Mouse-coloured Penduline Tit, Beautiful Sunbird, Bristle-crowned Starling, Jackson’s Golden-backed, Little and Northern Masked Weavers. In the evening we visit several sites looking for Verreaux’s and Spotted-Eagle Owls, as well as the White-faced Scops Owl. Dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Lake Baringo

Full day at Baringo, well known by many avid Ornithologist as mecca for Birds, with 500 species of birds having been recorded. Explore this area with field Birding around Lake Baringo, its environs, the Cliffs and the bushes. There are possibilities to see rare species like, Cape Eagle Owl, White-faced Scops Owl, Jackson’s Hornbill, Hemprich’s Hornbill, Brown-Tailed Rock Chat, Nothern Red Bishop, Northern Masked Weaver and White Billed Buffalo Weaver, Olivaceous Warbler, Northern brown bul, Jackson’s golden backed weaver, Little weaver, Brown Tailed Rock Chat, Goliath heron, Northern Shoveller, Verreauxs eagle owl, Bristle crowned starling, Senegal Thicknee, Pygmy falcon, Blue cheecked bee-eater. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge/hotel.

Day 3: Lake Baringo- Lake Nakuru

We leave this morning drive to Lake Nakuru National Park coloured with a shimmering flamingo pink from thousands of the beautiful birds lining its shores. Nakuru National Park, a shallow and strongly alkaline lake, with surrounding acacia woodland & grassland. Firstly, gazetted as a bird sanctuary is, known for its bird life for the thousands of Lesser and Greater flamingos make this lake their home, among hundreds of other Species unique to this area which include, White winged Black Tern, Hilderbrants Francolin, African fish eagle, Steppe eagle, Grey crested Helmet Shrike, Red-capped lark, Spotted Crake. Wildlife is also in abundance here. Lake Nakuru National Park has been made into one of Kenya’s rhino sanctuary. Dinner and overnight stay at your pre-booked hotel/lodge.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru- Nairobi

Early morning birding at the park, drive to Nairobi and have lunch. After lunch you will be transferred to the airport for outbound flight or to the hotel for stay at your own cost.
